From 1 July 2021, those stay-at-home parents who receive child-care fee or child-care allowance can take up jobs at favourable conditions at the cooperative of stay-at-home parents of small children, also available under the brand name Szomszédok.
The aim of the Cooperative of Stay-at-Home Parents of Small Children (Kisgyermekkel Otthon Lévők Szövetkezete) is to improve the financial and social situation of those who receive child-care fee or child-care allowance (other than grandparents) and to make it easier for members to engage in a flexible form of employment, and to re-enter the labor market. The Cooperative of Stay-at-Home Parents of Small Children aligns working life and the fulfilment of parental duties.
In Hungary, currently about 250,000 parents receive child-care allowance or child-care fee. According to our surveys, almost 80% of these parents would be willing to work before their child reaches the age of 3 if the work could be done under flexible conditions and in a protected environment. Stay-at-home parents of small children are in a stage of life where people have several years of work experience and expertise.
